Unnati, A Flagship Program
"I hear, and I forget. I see, and I remember. I do, and I understand." - Confucius
The model
We’ve designed a program module for teachers capacity building (on job) which deliver fun-based experiential learning in the native language of the child. At its core, the module has a “child first” philosophy, supplemented by training teachers in innovative teaching methodology.
We at NSS believe that though Unnati program we will create a chain of instructional leaders who would approach classroom teaching learning process with renewed knowledge and enhanced capacity and over a period of time become strong instructional leaders promoting our practices in various institutions they work in.
As Sir John Dewey rightly remarked, “Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.” The program is designed and developed based on the principles of ‘Learning by Doing’ and Adult Learning.
Unnati is a full time learning program, for in-service teachers to engage in meaningful learning and professional development. During this two-year program that is spread across 4 semesters, the teachers are trained and supported on various components including:
- Pedagogy - effective and innovative teaching practices
- Knowledge - strong understanding of concepts in the space of early childhood
- Mindset and Belief - learning to believe that every child can learn and every teacher can grow
- Classroom Practices - establishing a classroom culture where everyone can thrive
- Communication and Instructional Routine - setting habits for communication and teaching to make learning easier for students
- Lesson Planning - planning with purpose to ensure that all the students are able to benefit from the session
With a focus on these components the teachers are empowered to bridge the learning gaps in their classrooms. There is additional focus on ‘School Readiness’ activities and approaches for the young ones to ensure that they are sufficiently prepared for elementary education.
